     Adam Mott was born in 1596 at Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.¹ He married Sarah Lott.¹ Adam Mott died in 1661 at Portsmouth, Newport, RI.¹
     Adam Mott came to New England in 1635 in the ship "Defence". Before embarking he brought testimony of his conformity to the order and discipline of the Church of England. He was twice married, second to Sarah Lott, a widow. His wife Sarah, one of her children by a former marriage, and several of his children by his first wife, accompanied him. Mr. Mott was admitted a freeman of Roxbury, Mass., May 25, 1636. He and his wife were members of the first church at Roxbury, 1636. He moved soon to Hingham, where he had a grant of land, and he was of Portsmouth, R.I., and was admitted an inhabitant of the island of Aquidneck in 1638. With others he was appointed to lay out lands in Portsmouth and he was made a freeman there March 16, 1641. He was a tailor.¹
