It is supposed that he was the same William Gifford who in 1647 or earlier was ordered by the court at Stanford to be whipped and banished. On Nov. 10, 1670 Mr. Gifford bought of mistress Sarah Warren of Plymouth, widow of Richard Warren, one half her share in the land at Dartmouth, which by deed May 6, 1683 he gave equally to his sons Christopher and Robert. He also owned land in Sandwich, Falmouth, and Rhode Island. He lived in Sandwich until his death except for the period of 1665-1670, when he and others became proprietors of Monmouth County, NJ, by purchase of land from the Indians. At Sandwich, Barnstable, MA.1,2 He immigrated after 1643 to Sandwich, Barnstable, MA.1 |
